Introduction
   Food technology is the field where we learn the techniques for food items involving their production, preservation, quality management, packaging and consumption. It is the most frequently rising field with number of innovations. 
             
As a career choice:
              
Whenever you choose the career field, you should always look for it's scope in your own area first, then in your own country and then worldwide. Food is the necessity of everyone's life ,therefore presence of an industry involved in food manufacturing and processing is  obvious but it's employment range is what that matters most. 
               If you decide to pursue this as a career first make the list of top colleges and the exams through which you can enter into this field. Always keep in mind to check the placement cell section of that college because it's rare in case of Food technology course that every college provides placement and with no placement it is hard to get a job for a fresher. 

  •   Prefer to choose doing B.tech in Food technology rather than B.sc or M.sc because if you don't get job after doing B.tech , you can hardly make difference by doing Masters in this field.
  •   Try to get admission into the top colleges or if not possible , try to do more internships during your academics. Try to get skilled in industrial software. 
  •  The salary package for a fresher who has done B.tech in Food tech or M.sc on food tech is mostly around 10k-12k INR. But if you get hired from top manufacturing companies the start could be 22k INR.
             When you entered into this field always keep in mind you should continuously make yourself updated with the innovations/norms/ standards maintained in this field so you can grow continuously even if your work profile is not growing.

Scope in India

  • Top food technology institutes in India are CFTRI, Mysore ; NIFTEM, Sonipat; IIFPT, Tamil Nadu.
  • These 3 colleges have great faculty and all the updated laboratory instrumentation which is the the needful to make a good career in this field.
  • As India is a developing country , it get hard for the students who pursued this course from private colleges or the colleges above than the mentioned ones, as most of them are highly expensive , lack of proper faculty and system for the course, no placement guidance.
  • To enter into the B.tech or M.tech in a good college , one have to clear GATE as this exam enlisted you in the list of good colleges along with scholarship guidance.
  • Students who does not get selected by top MNC's faces a lot of hardship for a good earning package .
